Most nonprofits are not known for their marketing ability unless they are national in scope and have large budgets. Then you might have a little understanding about what the organization is all about. I don't believe there is a fear of seeing a nonprofit advertising during the Super Bowl any time soon. Do you?

However, now more than ever there are thousands of people telling nonprofits
that if they only establish a website they would be getting lots of attention and,
more importantly, online donations!

This idea is an outright lie and simply not true. Marketing any product or service takes time, energy, good ideas and money. Most nonprofits are so concentrated on raising money they don't feel they have time to think about establishing or maintaining their community image, or trying to market their organization other than by "word or mouth" to let people know what they are all about. Many nonprofit's attitudes are based on a false hope that because they are good and do good things money will follow.

As a test to see how good you think you have been, start first with your board of directors. Ask each individual board member privately to tell you as if you were a stranger all about the nonprofit they serve. Time the person and see if they can talk to you for at least five minutes. While this may sound easy, you would be surprised how few can actually do this!

With this in mind, ask yourself the question, "If the board of directors can't even tell me about the nonprofit then, what does the public truly know?"

Lastly, below are several consultants that have asked to be listed on our site and said they would be happy to help answer any additional questions you might have.

So, send them an email!

Nancy E. Schwartz helps nonprofits succeed through effective marketing and communications as the publisher of the Getting Attention blog and e-newsletter, and as President of New York City-based Nancy Schwartz & Company (NS&C). Nancy and her team at NS&C provide communications planning and implementation services to organizations as varied as the Corporation for Supportive Housing, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Environmental Health Coalition, United Jewish Federation of Tidewater and the National Center for Biking and Walking.

There are many good causes in the world but only a few get their message across well. At BrandOutLoud they believe powerful imagery is the key to successful communication: Visualize to persuade. BrandOutLoud is a Dutch non-profit organization that provides tailor-made branding & communications to local aid organizations worldwide.

They believe that developing a professional set of communication tools is all about identity: knowing who you are and what you stand for. A genuine, convincing and authoritative message to the world will attract a broader audience and increase your impact. They combine sophisticated photography, graphic design, copy and an outstanding online presence. The result is a striking communications cocktail, enabling local aid organizations to promote themselves in a positive and successful way for years ahead. For more information contact Judith Madigan the companies founder and communications director.

Hannah Brazee Gregory, President and Founder of Shoestring Creative Group www.shoestringgroup.com. All they do is nonprofit, no other clients, so this is their specialty! They offer reduced rates of $65/hour but offer the same full-service marketing support that ad/PR agencies do for hundreds an hour.  They also do not mark up any printing or ad buying expenses to make money off of nonprofit clients. Everything they do is about getting the most for as little money as possible. [Client portfolios available on web site]
They also offer a national network of consultants who can help nonprofits in any region in the US, and there website has a great resources section that allows people to sign up for our "on a shoestring" eNewsletter. Click here to sign up: http://app.e2ma.net/app/view:Join/signupId:2540
